Tsinghua University Course Outlines

Recommended Posts

I am desperate to find Tsinghua University Chinese Language course outlines. I have tried emailing them but there has been no response.

I'm interested in Intermediate 201 and 202 and Intermediate-advanced 301 and 302. It doesn't matter if they are old or new.

If no one has them can they tell me where to find them.

Also I would like to know how many chinese characters you need to know for each course.

Thanks

sorry I don't know where you can find a course outline and I'm not even sure if they have one. I know they don't hand out any syllabus or something like that for the Chinese language classes.

I took 102 and I would say it's at least a high intermediate level compared to the US. Most of your classmates will be Korean or Japanese and they usually learn faster than Westerners, especially with writing/reading.

The 201/202 level includes a lot more readings and the 301/302 do newspaper readings. A lot of the students in 301/302 are pretty much fluent in Chinese.

What you could do is to do sit in for a day in all the classes and then decide which one suits you better.

So you are able to easily change courses if you say you are able to decide which one suits you better?

Has anyone here taken 201, 202, 301,302 before or is currently taking one of those classes? If so I would appreciate it if you could give me more information.

I'm trying to find the course outlines or anything close to it because I am getting course credit for study at Tsinghua from my University and they require lots of information.

There are no course outlines in the classes here. Though each level does vary in which subjects they take. The 101 and 102 levels have 3 subjects: listening, comprehensive and oral. I believe 201 and 202 have those 3 and grammar. I am currently in 302, and 301 and 302 have listening, comprehensive (reading and writing), oral and newspaper. As mentioned before, your classmates will mostly be Korean or Japanese and they will learn rapidly as written chinese is quite similar to their own language. So the classes are fast-paced and so the lower course levels may not be as easy as you think.

For 302, these are the books that we use:

Newspaper: http://demo1.smartinfo.com.hk/royal_dragon/demo/en/chinese_d.php?id=66

Oral: http://www.infobold.com/ChinaBooks/search.cfm?UR=26832&search_stage=details&records_to_display=50&this_book_number=11

Grammar:http://www.dushu.com/book/10814808/

Comprehensive: http://www.infobold.com/ChinaBooks/search.cfm?UR=24699&search_stage=details&records_to_display=1&source=email_list

You are allowed to sit in on classes and make changes during the first week of classes, afterwards you're on your own.

To give you some understanding, my friend took two years of Chinese at an American university and he is currently in 102.

I'm in 302 but I've taken 6 years of non-intensive (3hrs/week) mandarin, and 1 semester at a US University. I can converse almost fluently in Mandarin (minus a few grammatical mistakes and wrong use of words), but I also speak Cantonese as a native language.

Good luck!
