I'm looking for something to be my first Chinese novel, but I need something pretty easy... probably like the level of an 8- or 10-year-old native speaker. I know roughly 1000 characters by sight and they're all pretty much in the top 1000 on most frequency charts. Does anyone have any suggestions for when they were at this level? I will most certainly need a dictionary and the reading will be slow, but I'd like something I can get some meaning (and maybe even some entertainment) out of. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
