Yeah I figured that, which kind of made it worse, it was just a random thing to throw in as a convenient plot device, with no real basis in the rest of the story. roddy Posted February 5, 2009 at 03:51 PM Author Report Share Posted February 5, 2009 at 03:51 PM I'm not sure - the fact that he's foreign means she can then get him to act as guarantor for her brother's study in the US in exchange for not reporting him, which could explain why she's got so much invested in him having a successful career.
