Although, german has quite different grammar, which is very hard to learn. Sometimes even i cannot solve her exercises. .. so many rules to consider (tenses and so on). But I don't really think it has any special advantage for Chinese who knows Mandarin Chinese only to learn other languages, maybe your girlfriend is clever.
