Close... 要是 means "if" in this context, not "want," so a better translation would be: If one doesn't work hard, he will accomplish nothing. How about for the next sentence, try translating what's in my signature: 一寸光陰一寸金,寸金難買寸光陰。 It's a pretty popular expression... more motivation for you.
