Claw Posted July 19, 2004 at 05:36 AM Report Share Posted July 19, 2004 at 05:36 AM galitonwu: Actually none of those definitions of snap matches what I believe smallwind is asking. I believe "to snap" in this case means "to lapse into momentary rage" or "to lose one's temper" (i.e. He snapped after he could not handle the pressure anymore.) -- it's somewhat of a slang term. So, "I snapped" could be translated as: 我發脾氣了。
roddy Posted July 19, 2004 at 05:45 AM Report Share Posted July 19, 2004 at 05:45 AM What about 起火 for snapped - to lose your temper. To snap usually implies that you've been trying to keep your temper for a while though, I think. It's my best guess though. Roddy
BeijingSlacker Posted July 20, 2004 at 06:22 AM Report Share Posted July 20, 2004 at 06:22 AM What about 起火 for snapped - to lose your temper. 起火(catch fire) doesn't really mean "to lose your temper". You were trying to say 发火?( get mad with someone.) “我(最后终于)急了”might be be a proper translation to "I snapped"
roddy Posted September 28, 2004 at 07:37 AM Report Share Posted September 28, 2004 at 07:37 AM I've got 'fume, become enraged' here for 起火, but I haven't been able to find any examples of it actually being used. It's third after 'be on fire' and 'start the fire (to cook)'. . . I think I did mean 发火 though. Roddy
