imron Posted June 14, 2009 at 03:31 AM Report Share Posted June 14, 2009 at 03:31 AM It would seem that the default search function on the website searches for ANY word in the query rather than ALL words in the query. For example, if I search for "memorizing radicals", then the results are basically useless as you get a whole bunch of posts that mention "memorizing" but not "radicals" and another bunch of posts that mention "radicals" but not memorizing. i.e. it searches for memorizing OR radicals, rather than memorizing AND radicals. I'm sure it didn't use to work like this.
skylee Posted June 14, 2009 at 09:23 AM Report Share Posted June 14, 2009 at 09:23 AM I just wonder about "didn't use to". Not sure I've learnt this pattern (the negative) before. The search function here is very unreliable IMHO.
imron Posted June 14, 2009 at 11:31 AM Author Report Share Posted June 14, 2009 at 11:31 AM I just wonder about "didn't use to".It's the negative of "used to". The BBC at least agrees that it's not just me making up random English
roddy Posted June 16, 2009 at 07:23 AM Report Share Posted June 16, 2009 at 07:23 AM This should be fixed once my computer finishes rebuilding the search indexes. Although I should have started it when I was already at home, looks like I could be sitting here some time
889 Posted June 23, 2009 at 10:43 AM Report Share Posted June 23, 2009 at 10:43 AM I don't want to start another thread, so I'll throw in my complaint here that the search function doesn't let you search for an individual Chinese character, reporting that it's too short for a search. (Yes, searching on Google's a work-around, but not always a convenient one.)
