1 or 2 day trip in Hangzhou?

Hi all,

I'm planning a trip to Shanghai and region this November. I plan to make excursion trips to Suzhou and Hangzhou.

My questions is whether 1 day each is enough for these places??? I notice most tourists do only one day each. My objectives are basically sightseeing and food tasting. I'm wondering whether 2 days each would be better. Thanks for your advise!

If you have never been to these 2 cities I think it would be better to stay a night in each.

I've been to Suzhou several times (always side trips from Shanghai) and I think you can't do all the sights in just one day. 2 days will allow you enough time to see the sights more leisurely.

I spent 3 days in Hangzhou many years ago and I felt that the length of the trip was just right. But you could probably do it in 2 days.

I lived in Suzhou for four years and I recommand you to have a walk on the Pingjiang Street. Maybe stay there for one night will be more fun, and if you happen to go there on Sunday, then you can go to the Kunqu Opera Museum near Pingjiang Street to enjoy Kunqu Opera.

There are some cool things to see in Hangzhou and if you can swing it, I'd recommend staying at the Hangzhou Xihu State Guesthouse. Outstanding grounds. Heck, I could spend a day just walking around those grounds. Just beautiful. It's my wife and I's honeymoon hotel.

Also, it's within walking distance (if you like to walk, of many other sights.

My wife and I stayed there 10 days or so and just loved it. The buffet food is great, everything there was just great.

When I go back we will definately go there again. I'd say you'd need at least a week to really see everything in Hangzhou.. Actually, I'd even say more. There's a lot to see there.
