Claw Posted August 1, 2004 at 10:16 AM Report Share Posted August 1, 2004 at 10:16 AM I don't think it's satire or criticism... it's actually the best page that I've ever seen that explains the nature of Chinese characters to English readers. Guest Yau Posted August 2, 2004 at 09:21 PM Report Share Posted August 2, 2004 at 09:21 PM it may be ridiclious to suggest this today, but writing european language in characters was a serious idea advocated by some missionaries a few hundred years ago. They found that there're dozens of dialects in china at that time. Every of them had potential to be a separate language but characters made them united, which efficiently hindered the language barrier. Sounds funny. They wouldn't know the unity just can't ensure any prosperity and booming of culture.
