Inquiry Letter

Hello,

I am working on going to Beijing China next year, and teaching elementary or middle schoolers English. I am going about it several different ways, mainly applying with an agency, and also applying directly to schools. Applying to the agency is pretty straightforward, but as far as applying to schools, it's been a little overwhelming. Anyway, I wrote an inquiry letter, and was wondering if anybody has any thoughts about it, they could comment. I'd really appreciate it. Further, does anybody know about a standard form for an inquiry letter? Thanks again.

Terri

My name is Terri Day, and I am hopeful that your institution might be in need of an English instructor. I will be graduating from Winston-Salem State University at the end of this year with a B.A. in Mass Communications. I do not have any formal teaching experience, but for the last two years, I have volunteered helping ESL students do reading and math. I was born in the United States and have a very formal and clear speaking style. In 2007, I visited China and lived in Beijing for one month. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and got a chance to live and learn in the city. If at all possible I would very much like to be placed there. I have an English minor, and also took a class learning techniques for teaching English to foreign students. For the past two years I have studied Chinese at my university, and have a beginner to intermediate grasp of the language. I want to come to China to further this knowledge and experience, as well as because I have a deep affection for China, and Beijing in particular. I know quite a few people in the city, and enjoyed my time there. I am currently located in Charlotte, North Carolina, USA. I was born on April 19, 1983. The reason that I am applying now is that I am hoping to get an early start on the application process, so that I can begin quickly in the new year. I hope that this will not be a problem. My photo and resume are attached. Thank you.
