Mainstream books translated into Chinese

Just picked up the first Harry Potter book as a compliment to my regular Chinese studies. Yet, I was wondering if the translations are any good (grammar/vocab/all the fun stuff). I'm just sick of going over dialogues in class and I wanted an easy read to get me started.

I figured Harry Potter is a step up from being too kiddy and far from the Chinese romance novels!

Thanks, and no offense to those who love romance novels.

I think the Harry Potter (Mainland version) translation is very good on the whole. There is a liberal use of chengyu, which I really like and also a lot of onomatopoeia, which is not so useful.

There are some places where the translations are incorrect – you can find some Chinese websites which list an analyse them.
