Hofmann Posted March 27, 2010 at 06:32 AM Report Share Posted March 27, 2010 at 06:32 AM Does anyone notice a pattern on whether or not some people begin null initials with a glottal stop, especially before ? I hear it a lot on 一, 英, 意. And look what 廣韻 says... 一於悉切 英於驚切 意於記切 Most here reconstruct the 於 initial, which is the 影 initial, as a glottal stop. (Oops. Wrong forum. Please move to pronunciation forum.)
Altair Posted May 12, 2010 at 02:29 AM Report Share Posted May 12, 2010 at 02:29 AM As far as I can tell, I always hear a glottal stop or a smooth ingress before . I cannot recall specifically hearing an initial y-glide for words beginning with pinyin /yi/.
