Scoobyqueen Posted April 13, 2010 at 10:19 AM Report Share Posted April 13, 2010 at 10:19 AM In the following sentence what does 将成为未来 mean? xx先生用他独特的眼光看到全球化将成为未来汽车发展的重要方向 I want to say that from then on, the development of cars would be important. This was one suggestion I found. Would it be better to write将由此成为此后? Also which sounds better of the following? 敏锐地意识到 Or 用他独特的眼光看到?
doraemon Posted April 13, 2010 at 10:54 AM Report Share Posted April 13, 2010 at 10:54 AM It's best to divide the sentence up this way: xx先生用他独特的眼光看到 全球化将成为 未来汽车发展的重要方向。 The first highlighted section means in English: globalisation(全球化) will(将) become(成为) The second highlighted section means something like: an important direction for the development of future vehicles. Here's my attempt at translating it: Mr XX's acute perceptiveness has enabled him to foresee that globalisation will become an important direction for the development of future vehicles. (sounds a bit wordy in my opinion ) As you see, 将成为未来 doesn't actually mean anything on it's own in this sentence. The sentence kind of stops at 将成为 and starts again at 未来汽车发展的重要方向。 Would it be better to write将由此成为此后? I don't think it's that necessary. The phrasing in the sentence is perfectly fine. Also which sounds better of the following?敏锐地意识到 Or 用他独特的眼光看到? If you ask me, the latter sounds better. You can also have 敏锐的眼光 but I don't think 意识 sounds as good in this sentence as using 眼光. Why not say, 某某先生眼光独到,看到了全球化将会是汽车行业发展的重要方向。

Kenny同志 Posted May 20, 2010 at 02:48 PM Report Share Posted May 20, 2010 at 02:48 PM Sorry I'm curious why the original version is considered 'crappy'? It's hard to explain. But as a native speaker immensed in authentic Chinese, I am told by my intuition that it is ugly.
