Kanin Posted May 27, 2010 at 12:02 AM Report Share Posted May 27, 2010 at 12:02 AM Hi there! I plan to study Chinese in Shanghai this autumn, and I've started to think about a Chinese name for myself. I have a friend who's father is Chinese, and he suggested the name 柯进. What do you think about it, and do yourselves have any suggestions? My western name is Jimmy Kallin (pronounced kaleen). Many thanks! CrisPal Posted May 27, 2010 at 04:12 AM Report Share Posted May 27, 2010 at 04:12 AM 柯进 is pretty good in my opinion but, if you like a three-charactars Chinese name ,how do you think about 柯礼仁 which pronounced close to Kallin.
jbradfor Posted May 27, 2010 at 04:18 AM Report Share Posted May 27, 2010 at 04:18 AM I would recommend sticking with 柯进 as your given name, but pick a more normal "family" name. I would recommend heading over to a list of common Chinese family names and picking one that sounds most like your family name.
doraemon Posted May 27, 2010 at 06:32 AM Report Share Posted May 27, 2010 at 06:32 AM I think for Kallin, 柯凌/灵 would also be good options because they sound more close to your western name. ;)

Kenny同志 Posted May 27, 2010 at 11:10 AM Report Share Posted May 27, 2010 at 11:10 AM 柯灵? Ooh, he was a famed writer.
skylee Posted May 27, 2010 at 11:41 AM Report Share Posted May 27, 2010 at 11:41 AM I think both 柯進 and 柯禮仁 are very good. They both sound very Chinese and are meaningful. I myself prefer 柯禮仁, probably because I value propriety and kindness more than progress.
