Blcu Exams

Hi

I'm taking the BLCU Fall 2010 full year language program and was wondering what the exams are like, when they are taken and when the results are issued?

I know that there are both midyear and end of year exams, but I would like to know in particular what these exams entail and if results from the midyear exams will be issued at the end of the Fall Semester or the beginning of the Spring Semester?

If anyone has any experiences of BLCU exams they would be happy to share that would be fantastic.

Thanks,

Jess

Hi Jess, we were given out midterm exam results a few days after doing them. End of term results take a bit longer - around one week. You will be assessed in speaking, reading and writing, grammar and listening. We also had an exam after the first month that counted for 10%, but I'm not sure if this applies for all levels (we started from scratch).

Speaking - You will be asked to talk about one of 6 topics chosen at random by the teacher on the day. You should prepare at least four to be safe. Talk must last three minutes, but if you fall short the teacher will make up time by asking you questions in a helpful manner.

Reading and writing - Read passages and answer questions to test your comprehension and writing ability.

Listening - You will listen to a recording as a class and give your answers in the form of a multiple choice questionnaire. There may be some writing required.

Grammar - Choose the correct grammar structures for pages of sentences.

Thanks a lot!

I was wondering about the type of exam I will be writing this November and next January:)

By the way, are the topics for speaking already given before the test? Did you find the texts on the exam harder than the ones from the textbook?

Thank you in advance.
