Green Tea - Zhao Wei, Jiang Wen, Dir. Zhang Yuan

Just watched this, and really liked it. So much in fact that I forgot to move right the way through it, and when it finished and I stood up I found my leg had gone to sleep and I almost fell over. That's beside the point though.

Zhao Wei, bookish graduate student and serial blind dater meets and enchants Jiang Wen. That's about it, plotwise. It's great though, really.

It's really interesting visually - there isn't a dull camera angle right the way through the film. The Chinese is standard, but there are lots of intense semi-whispered conversations, and I wouldn't have understood much without the subtitles.

Anyone else seen it?

i haven't seen it yet, but its been one of the films i have been planning on getting on dvd since i heard about it several months ago. for those of you outside of china, it is currently available on yesasia.com and is a bestseller. since i think i will be going to china in the next month or so, i will put off a purchase so that i can get it a bit cheaper in china.

Agreed. I was really into it, especially the camerawork. AND the colours. So vivid! Or maybe my senses have been blunted by months of poor VCDs...

BUT, how could Jiang Wen 'not know' ???

And they're together again in the new one, yeah? 'Heaven and Earth' (???). Anyone seen it?

Wonderful film. Christopher Doyle was the cinematographer so no surprise that it looks so good. Also the music. Wu Lala is the sound designer and his name on a credit always means good music (e.g., Spring Subway,Dazzling, Spicy Love Soup, I Love You). The credit for the actual music in the film goes to Su Cong.

cheers
