Alveranter Posted October 7, 2004 at 08:52 PM Report Share Posted October 7, 2004 at 08:52 PM It's a bit difficult to understand the difference between these two words when used with verbs.. does anyone have a good explanation?
Catdiseased Posted October 7, 2004 at 09:05 PM Report Share Posted October 7, 2004 at 09:05 PM Let's look at two examples: 他很快地把馒头吞了下去。 - He quickly swallowed the dumplings. 地 is used after an adverb, which is 很快 here, and before the verb. It's pronounced (de) when you use it in this situation. 他吃馒头吃得很快。 - He is very quick at eating dumplings. 得 is used after the verb, 吃, before the adverb 很快. Here are another two examples: 小王高高兴兴地去上学。 孩子闹得哇哇叫。 hope I could help
hamz Posted October 8, 2004 at 06:21 AM Report Share Posted October 8, 2004 at 06:21 AM as in your examples. "地" is used after adverbs. "得" is used after verbs. right?
Claw Posted October 8, 2004 at 07:49 AM Report Share Posted October 8, 2004 at 07:49 AM as in your examples. "地" is used after adverbs. "得" is used after verbs. right? Yes, though technically speaking, 地 is used after adjectives, but by using 地, it turns the adjective into an adverb.
xiaomawang Posted October 8, 2004 at 09:31 AM Report Share Posted October 8, 2004 at 09:31 AM Maybe you could think that '地' is similar as '-ly' and you use it when you describe a real action/movement is/was doing. e.g. 青蛙很快地跳開了. It's a real action you see/saw. '得' is similar as '(verb) so (adj)', it implies 'so...that'; you use it to describe a movement not necessary is/was doing. e.g. 青蛙跳得很快, could imply (我捉不到它.) You might not see it's jumping. You just guess the result.
