Hi all,

How do I use 才疏學淺 in a sentence? I want to say something like, I have little talent and less learning in Chinese...

Thanks in advance.

才疏學淺 can be used in every aspect but not only in Chinese learning. The above example is good. Here is another one for your reference. Hope this helps.

e.g.

恕我才疏学浅,回答不了您的问题。

才疏學淺

Can this phrase be used in informal, everyday situations? (It just looks fairly formal to me).

Everyday situations ... such as? 我也才疏學淺,回答不了您的問题。

One thing is sure, though. You use it to describe yourself, not other people.

This idiom can be used to the speaker herself/himself. In this case we would like to be modest.

In traditional Chinese cultural, we Chinese would like to debase ourselves to show our modest.

If it was used to the other person, it would be ok too. It means the person know little. It has a derogative meaning here.

e.g.他才疏学浅, 无术不学.
