If they are already in the public domain, do I need to obtain any permission to public or distribute the works in their translated form? Do I need to get some kind of right to translate? Would I retain copyright of the translated form? Initially, I'd like to just do this for writing practice, but if I complete anything of quality, I'd like to post it as an eBook perhaps. You do not automatically retain copyright of the translated work, unless you specifically choose a copyright license when you distribute it. Of course a lawyer can give more complete advice.
