nipponman Posted January 4, 2005 at 05:34 PM Report Share Posted January 4, 2005 at 05:34 PM Hi, There is a conlfict between my dictionary and http://humanum.arts.cuhk.edu.hk/Lexis/Lindict/" (LinYuTang's dictionary) He says 整齊 is zheng3 qi5 while my dictionary says it is zheng3 qi2 . Is this a big deal like dong1xi1 and dong1xi (both 東西)? Thanx in advance for any help.
kentsuarez Posted January 5, 2005 at 06:06 AM Report Share Posted January 5, 2005 at 06:06 AM The qi should be 2nd tone based on both DeFrancis's ABCComprehensive and the usage I've always heard in Taiwan. On a broader note, when I hear PRC Chinese speak, there seem to be quite a few final syllables which get converted to neutral tone, while their original tone is preserved here in Taibei.
