Jive Turkey Posted January 24, 2005 at 03:17 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2005 at 03:17 AM A friend of mine is looking for an IPA table for the Beijing dialect or any other high dialects of Putonghua, i.e. anything from northeast urban areas. I know such tables exist, but I can't seem to find any on the internet. Has anybody seen any on the internet or in easily accesible printed sources? It should preferably show IPA and then comparable sounds rendered in Hanyu Pinyin.

Jive Turkey Posted January 24, 2005 at 06:48 AM Author Report Share Posted January 24, 2005 at 06:48 AM Thanks to both Liuzhou and Pollywaffle. I had seen the chart on Wikipedia before, but the IPA symbols don't show properly. Is there a certain code I need to use in my browser? Claw Posted January 24, 2005 at 10:09 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2005 at 10:09 AM Thanks to both Liuzhou and Pollywaffle. I had seen the chart on Wikipedia before, but the IPA symbols don't show properly. Is there a certain code I need to use in my browser? There's a note on that Wikipedia page that tells you how to fix it: Note: This page contains phonetic information presented in the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) using Unicode. See IPA in Unicode if you have display problems.
liuzhou Posted January 24, 2005 at 10:51 AM Report Share Posted January 24, 2005 at 10:51 AM You probably need a Unicode font. Click here for a self installing Arial Unicode Font. It is about 13 Mb so be patient.
