New Members Noqa Posted May 31, 2012 at 12:06 PM New Members Report Posted May 31, 2012 at 12:06 PM Hi. I wonder how complement particle works with serial verbs. For example: Kids begin to learn English very early. Would it be: 孩子开始学习英语开始得很早 (I'm not even sure how should I treat 开始, is 始 like object?) or 孩子学习英语开始得很早? How is it with other word orders avaliable for 得? Quote
malanting Posted May 31, 2012 at 12:30 PM Report Posted May 31, 2012 at 12:30 PM 孩子很早就开始学英语。That's how I would put it. 孩子学习英语开始得很早 sounds better if you have to use 得 Quote
WestTexas Posted June 1, 2012 at 05:41 AM Report Posted June 1, 2012 at 05:41 AM I don't really feel like I encounter the pattern of verb+object+verb that often outside of textbooks. Quote
chuasan Posted June 19, 2012 at 11:13 AM Report Posted June 19, 2012 at 11:13 AM Is this also right? 孩子开始学习英语得很早 @noqa Why did you use the 开始 twice? Quote
ldgend Posted June 20, 2012 at 05:59 AM Report Posted June 20, 2012 at 05:59 AM The first one, "得" can be instead of "的" it just a connection with two parts of this sentence. second one, I think it is correct. Quote

Tiana Posted June 25, 2012 at 08:05 AM Report Posted June 25, 2012 at 08:05 AM Leileilee, your sentence is good but it's not the one being discussed: the 得 here is the complement-introducing [de] and not your [dei] (=should). Quote
