contacting international scientists

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I would be very happy to meet international scientists in Beijing. I'll be at PKU around the end of July and probably also in October this year.

I'm until the end of this month in the research group of an internationally outstanding Chinese professor at the University of California. Over the past years his group has been gradually moving to PKU (北大). Next week I will return to my home country (in Europe) with my wife and our 2yr-old daughter. I am now exploring possibilities of working in the PKU group of the same professor starting 2 or 3 years from now for a duration of 1-2 years, with my family also there. English is our 3rd language, I'm learning Chinese, and if we can go, then probably my wife will too.

Many-many thanks in advance for **any** feedback.

Illes

Could the professor and/or his research group introduce you to people already in Beijing? Are their seminars and such in your field at which you have met scientists in Beijing? Presumably you would meet plenty of scientists once you start working here.

Or do you want to know more about living here with a family? In that case you can also just look to meet non-scientific expats with families.

Sorry, it seems that my question was misleading. My visit next month will be my first one to China. It will be a small workshop organized by the professor. I've been to Korea and Singapore before.

From the professional point of view: It is probably very important to be at the right time at the right place with the right attitude/mindset. I would be happy to meet international professionals (not only scientists) who could teach me about some of their personal experiences from their own work in China. I hear that changes are still fast.

Yes, also about that. We would be very happy to meet people and would consider speaking Chinese very well after some years both a lot of fun and also a major investment. We are from a small country, two very close relatives studied in a rather big capital city to the northeast from us, etc, so we hope we're quite open-minded, but we're also cautious :-)

Maybe you can suggest ways of contacting expats?

Thanks again!
