I know that 一个一个地 indicates a step by step manner of doing something e.g.饭一口一口地吃 - eating bite for bite I read that if there is a 的 instead of the 地 at the end it is not adverbial but an attribute. In this sentence for example: 这一封一封的信都是她寄给我的 I have no clue how to translate that since the 一封一封 does not really indicate the manner of an action but of the 信 itself, right? Remember this: Only put verbs after 地, nouns after 的. In your case, 信 is noun, so 一封一封的信. 吃 is a verb, is an action, so 一口一口地吃.
