New Members Dreydenn Posted December 21, 2012 at 03:40 AM New Members Report Share Posted December 21, 2012 at 03:40 AM Hey folks, I'm doing research for a novel that I'm writing, and I'd love to hear any advice you all have regarding Chinese novels or even short stories. I'm looking for lit with as contemporary of a setting as possible, hopefully nothing before the 1990s. If they're set in Shanghai, even better. I've read Years of Red Dust, as well as a good amount of Eileen Chang and Wang Anyi, in both Chinese and English, and I'm looking to branch out. Thanks! Patpat Posted December 22, 2012 at 08:16 PM Report Share Posted December 22, 2012 at 08:16 PM If expats are okay, I really enjoyed the Qiu Xiaolong mystery novels, at least Death of a Red Heroine. Their being in English helped! In Chinese, Wang Xiaobo is well-reputed, though I've only read his collected love letters to Li Yinhe, 《爱你就像爱生命》, which is absolutely beautiful. Happy reading!
