roddy Posted March 8, 2005 at 11:04 AM Report Share Posted March 8, 2005 at 11:04 AM As title, really - installing it to my PDA as we speak. I know there are a few people on here who've been looking forward to this. Pleco.com Roddy
sui.generis Posted March 11, 2005 at 10:27 AM Report Share Posted March 11, 2005 at 10:27 AM I've decided to wait to upgrade until the finished version comes out, at which time I'm excited to try out the ABC dictionary. If you're already using it, does the ABC have any disadvatages compared to the old Oxford I'm using now?
beirne Posted March 11, 2005 at 12:22 PM Report Share Posted March 11, 2005 at 12:22 PM Oxford Dictionary? What Oxford Dictionary? I assume you are speaking about the Oxford dictionary and not the program. I've been running the alpha/beta for a while and almost never use the Oxford dictionary. While I still have the Oxford dictionary loaded I almost never use it. Occasionally I want a different perspective on a word and I'll look at it, but that is about it. Plecodict has my dream combination of dictionaries. I've been using Wenlin for years and really like the ABC dictionary that is in there. Wenlin doesn't have a very good English-Chinese dictionary, though, so I was relying on my paper NWP dictionary for that direction. When I heard that Mike was going to use the ABC dictionary in Plecodict I wrote to him and suggested that he try to get rights to the NWP. It turns out he was already working on that and it worked out. The Plecodict alpha was just good enough and the dictionaries were so great I deleted my Oxford software a long time ago. Pleco is still improving the program, but happy with it how it is. The main thing that was missing was the flash cards, which I don't use. If you are inclined to upgrade I'd do it now. I'd also get the NWP along with the ABC so you have good dictionaries in both directions.
sui.generis Posted March 11, 2005 at 01:55 PM Report Share Posted March 11, 2005 at 01:55 PM Yes, I was refering to dictionary and not the program. I do use the flashcard program--constantly, and I look forward to PlecoDict's flashcards. More and more though, I wish I had a chin-chin dictionary for it. I wonder if they're pursing that...
