deremifri Posted July 21, 2013 at 07:47 PM Report Posted July 21, 2013 at 07:47 PM Hello everybody, I have a quick question: The annotation tool Mandarinspot sometimes groups two characters together when they are supposed to be one word. As a beginner level student I am not able to tell if and how often this is done correctly. Does it (or other annotation tools) accoplish this with acceptable accuracy? Are there better tools out there? Thanks for your help Quote
navaburo Posted July 23, 2013 at 04:44 PM Report Posted July 23, 2013 at 04:44 PM The free online tools I have seen use a naive segmentation algorithm based on lookups in free dictionaries. The results are mostly correct, but not to be taken as a gold standard. For a beginner, I do not recommend using these tools. Instead, you will soon organically learn to segment on your own through exposure to text and perhaps by working with segmented pinyin materials. Quote
