the_p0et Posted March 13, 2005 at 08:53 AM Report Share Posted March 13, 2005 at 08:53 AM I'm having problems with the IME. I'm in Taiwan and want to use traditional chinese when chatting, working in Word etc... I've noticed there are quite a few words that I cannot type unless I use Chinese (PRC) and I don't want to always be switching back and forth between the two. For example: 等一下. Chinese (Taiwan) = 等一 deng yi but I need to switch over to Chinese (PRC) to type 下 xia since Chinese (Taiwan) doesn't recognize anything starting with "x". It also doesn't recognize "q". For example: qi, qian, qu, etc.. won't come up with anything using Chinese (Taiwan). Any suggestions? Thanks.
sui.generis Posted March 13, 2005 at 10:39 AM Report Share Posted March 13, 2005 at 10:39 AM Left-click the language bar, select properties. Select MS New Phonetic IME 2002a under the Chinese(Taiwan) keyboard info, then click the properties button to the right. Select the keyboard mapping tab, and change it from whatever radio button it's on to HanYu Pinyin.

the_p0et Posted March 13, 2005 at 01:21 PM Author Report Share Posted March 13, 2005 at 01:21 PM spoke too soon.. now i can't use Chinese at all on the computer. When I try switching back to Chinese with "Lft-Alt+Shift" it just stays on English. It won't even select Chinese (Taiwan) if I click on it from the language bar. Hmm.. sui.generis Posted March 13, 2005 at 10:10 PM Report Share Posted March 13, 2005 at 10:10 PM I'd remove it (chinese(taiwan)) from the properties screen, the add it again. Then I'd go back to keyboard mappings and repeat: but then I don't know why your language bar is acting up, so use this method at your own risk. Good luck.
