The resources I found helpful were: beijing.asiaxpat.com, bbs.chinadaily.com.cn, and bulletin boards at BLCU (by the friendship store is the best one). In these cases you are communicating directly with the landlord or maybe the tenant. I also know that it is very easy to use an english speaking real estate agent, but it will cost more. Near Haidian it is around 2500RMB for a nice 1 person through an agent and it gets a little cheaper as more people stay. I only pay 1000RMB for my room, but that is less than everyone else I know.
