kroy123 Posted April 13, 2014 at 05:04 PM Report Share Posted April 13, 2014 at 05:04 PM Couldn't find this mentioned anywhere here. I have watched all 36 episodes (all are available on Youtube) and highly enjoyed it - actually a very gripping show, and something I would've continued watching even if I wasn't trying to learn Chinese. roddy Posted April 14, 2014 at 04:41 PM Report Share Posted April 14, 2014 at 04:41 PM Welcome to the site, Kroy! What's it about, why's it so good, and how easy is the Chinese to understand?
stoney Posted April 15, 2014 at 03:33 PM Report Share Posted April 15, 2014 at 03:33 PM Thanks kroy123 for the recommendation. I've watched the first episode. Although it seems a bit melodramatic, I am left wanting to see what happens next. Good quality HD video.
kroy123 Posted April 19, 2014 at 11:49 AM Author Report Share Posted April 19, 2014 at 11:49 AM Welcome to the site, Kroy! What's it about, why's it so good, and how easy is the Chinese to understand? It's about a family of 4 from wenzhou and their relentless struggle to succeed and earn money throughout the years. I found it very gripping and moving (especially the scenes with the father character, 周万顺 - some of the scenes with the sister character 啊雨 in europe are relatively dull). I found it easy enough to understand with chinese subtitles, though of course some of the chinese spoken is not really standard.
Demonic_Duck Posted April 23, 2014 at 04:20 PM Report Share Posted April 23, 2014 at 04:20 PM I rather like this. On the whole, the Chinese used doesn't sound too non-standard to me. One thing's bothering me, though - how come all the Italians can speak Chinese? Also, *阿雨
