studying tcm and mandarin

I want to find a place where I can spend one month and study tcm and mandarin at the same time. I'm an MD from norway with basic mandarin skills. On my wish-list is a relatively small town/city, where I can join the clinical work at the hospital/medical school, look and learn in order to get an overview of chinese medicine. I'd like to rent a room at a mandarin-speaking chinese family in order to practice the language. I'm an experienced doctor and traveller.

The two things: tcm and correct mandarin, seem difficult to match. I have chinese friends from Beijing who tell me that the obvious choice would be to come to Beijing. But I won't be able to find the informal, intimate, small-scale social life that I prefer. On the other hand, going to distant parts, in the south, etc., it may be difficult to find people speaking relatively correct mandarin. I'm a kind of beginner, so I'd like to learn the kind of tongue they teach us at the courses. Maybe somewhere in the North, excluding Beijing, of course?? And above all, I hate those dormitories for foreigners. I won't travel to China just to speak english all day.

Any ideas, suggestions?
