At the end of this year or beginning 2006 I'll be moving to Montreal. I just wanted to know about the possibilities of studying Chinese there (universities, schools, HSK...) and about the Chinese community in this city. We have a pretty large Chinese community, I'd say, though not as big as Vancouver / Toronto, obviously. Also, most peopel speak Cantonese. However, if you want to study Chinese, most schools teach Mandarin. You can do continuing education-type courses (usually about 1x/week, not very intensive ... ) at several CEGEPs, including Dawson College. Right now, I'm studying Chinese at McGill University. I know Universite de Motnreal also offers Chinese courses at a similar level. Classes are intensive (5 hours/week in the school year, 20 hours/week if you take a summer course) and fairly high quality - I've definitly learned a lot. good luck!
