roddy 5,540
I'm now living in Edinburgh. Is anyone else? Or anyone near enough to make a trip to Auld Reekie feasible? If we can get one or two folk besides myself I'll start suggesting some dates...

CHINESE INDEPENDENT DOCUMENTARY: Wu Wenguang and the Memory Project25–29 November 2014, University of Edinburghhttp://www.confuciusinstitute.ac.uk/news/article.php?article_id=792&result=0Dear Friends,Join us for a truly remarkable programme of cutting edge independent documentary filmmaking in China being organised by the Confucius Institute for Scotland and to be held in the University of Edinburgh, November 25th-29th, 2014.Over the five day period we will show six Chinese documentaries made by China’s best-known independent filmmaker Wu Wenguang and his team. Takeshi 126
I'm going to be in Glasgow from August 10th to 14th for a conference, I think that's close enough to make a meetup feasible? My schedule is still not really planned out yet, but perhaps the weekend after the 14th might work out for me. I'll keep you all posted.
roddy 5,540
Takeshi! Glasgow's only 50 minutes from Edinburgh on the train, and it's the Edinburgh Festival in August so it's a good (if busy) time to visit. Or I should be able to pop through to Glasgow easily - keep me informed! Anyone else?
roddy 5,540
I'll be at this next Wednesday if anyone fancies it. The same event is taking place in Glasgow a day earlier too. I've heard Fenby speak before, my notes are here, near the bottom of the page.
Takeshi 126
Hmm, I'm not sure if I'll have time to go to Edinburgh in the end. I'm arriving in Glasgow on Sunday afternoon, and then conference activities are being held most other days. I suppose when more detailed information pops up I can find out which topics I'm not interested in and sneak out then. I'll let you know if there is a whole day or significant amount of time I'm not interested in going though. (Are you busy on weekdays though?) My presentation is on Thursday afternoon, so I'm busy for sure then. After the conference I made plans to go travelling with classmates, so I'm busy then too. Otherwise, I'm free on Sunday (9th), Tuesday and Wednesday evenings (On Sunday I arrive in Glasgow Central at 4:30, then I have to check in to my room and am otherwise free. On Tuesday I'm free from 5:45 at the latest, not sure the time yet on Wednesday, but probably around then as well). Not sure if it's feasible to make a round trip to Edinburgh from 5:45pm though. roddy 5,540
Assuming you'll be in the city center, a trip to Edinburgh would be feasible - the trains from Glasgow Queen St (just a ten minute walk from Glasgow Central) take 50 minutes and leave every 15 minutes. Might be easier for me to come through and find you though - depends if you want a quick look around Edinburgh or not. I'm sure we'll work something out. Are you going travelling in Scotland with your classmates? Any route planned?
Takeshi 126
No, not Scotland. We are going to Lake District, then to London where I'm going straight home on a flight and some others are staying in London for a bit. Okay, I'll keep you noted. It would be nice to get to meet you. Thanks!
roddy 5,540
Chen Guangcheng at the Edinburgh Book Festival - I'm going if anyone else fancies it. Xinran's also doing a talk, but that's sold out. Takeshi, excited about your trip yet?
Takeshi 126
Yea. At the looks of things, Wednesday afternoon might be the day I'm most free. Do you have WeChat or something? How should I contact you? (I am not planning on getting a UK phone number.)
Flickserve 1,125
I am in Edinburgh right now. Roddy, apologies but I am with family and only in town for a couple of days - I will not be able to meet with you.
