I have just occasionally listened to a Beijing radio chat station (Beijing Public Service Radio?) on the iPhone, using a program called TuneIn Radio. TuneIn Radio has been sending me notifications, and when I looked into the program to turn them off, I found it refused to do anything unless I let it access my contacts. It also began playing without me selecting a station, and I couldn't work out how to turn it off. Meanwhile, I have the impression that TuneIn Radio has changed its site and maybe you have to register and possibly even pay before you get any control over it.
