Usage of 岳母

Pegasus

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there are any Chinese language users here who could enlighten me on the way people use the word "岳母".

According to my dictionary, it means "mother-in-law (wife's mother)".

Is it a term that I could use to address my mother-in-law? For example, when I see my mother-in-law next week, could I say this to her, "岳母您好。好久不見。您好嗎? 您最近怎麽樣?" Or would it be strange or rude to address her this way?

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Pegasus

“岳母” refers to "mother-in-law".

But in China, we don't call “岳母”directly.

When you see your "mother-in-law", just call her "妈妈"

But when you talk about your mother in law to a different person, you can say"岳母".

For example,

A: 嗨,大卫!你昨天没有参加我们的聚会,你去哪里了?

B: 我岳母生病了, 我去医院看她了。

A: Hi, David, you didn't join our party yesterday, where did you go?

B: My "mother-in-law" was sick, I went to the hospital and visited her yesterday.
