CSC/Visa Extension to Edit Dissertation?

Is it possible to get a CSC extension? 

One of my classmates has only a month to do the revisions requested on her dissertation, and she has some concerns about the amount, time limit and quality. She also gave them the thesis quite awhile ago, but they were very slow in reading it and getting back to her. She is the only student in her program (English MBA) for her year (the year before mine), and, frankly, I think none of the advisors/professors saw/see it as a priority. They've told her to get an extension. 

But, when she went to the International Students department, they said it's "impossible" to get a visa and CSC extension, but she's heard other schools allow it and I see some previous discussions here saying that the school should be able to help her do it. Has anyone done it recently? 

If there are problems with the school helping, are there CSC resources that we can contact independently or even with the MBA offices, rather than the International Students?
