etcetera24 Posted July 18, 2005 at 06:48 PM Report Share Posted July 18, 2005 at 06:48 PM There's a phrase in cantonese (used by hong kong chinese anyway) that means "to brown nose" 刷鞋 It literally translates to "to shoe shine" I think the yale romanization is caat3 haai4 While the guoyu pinyin is shua1xie2, I don't think the meaning 'to brown nose' carries over in mandarin.
