亂交朋友

What does this mean? I am slightly confused because on my vocabulary list, for some words, the meaning is shown in characters, and this says: 隨便交朋友 -- which to me, means to casually make friends. The reason I am confused is the 亂. This words seems to have such a negative connotation (control, chaos, rebellion, etc.), and I'm wondering why it would be put in conjunction with 交朋友 (make friends)?

I think you are right- Luan4 is kind of negative..and I guess that it means to carelessy make friends- choosing friends unwisely.

Yeah, that's what I kind of figured. The full sentence is:

忘了﹖不要亂交朋友。甚麼亂七八糟的﹐出一趟差就認識一大群。你這個見面熟的毛

病就不能改一改﹖

So I figured he was getting on the train and supposed to be focusing on his business ventures, but he had the bad habit of carelessly making friends, so his wife gave him a little scolding.

Most of the time when you see 亂 + V, it is a criticism (although often can be used between friends jokingly), suggesting that the person is V'ing too "casually" or "carelessly" or "without thinking".
