炮, 砲

Firstly, are these two just variants of each other? Secondly, has anyone ever heard of the fact that 砲 was actually written as 石+馬+交? That would be really cool to write it that way:D .

Any help would be appreciated,

Actually sky, I have, and I only write the left characters. But I see 炮 and 砲 in traditional. I only see 裡 , 著 in traditional (rarely I will see 裏, unless I'm reading Japanese)It is strange. 礮 is not in my font system though, it is not in CQuickTrans or NJStar.

I use 裏 and 着. But do note that 著 (zhu4) has meanings other than those of 着 (zhe, zhuo2, zhao1, zhao2).

Yeah, I had some trouble learning that one, since it has five pronunciations. Luckily, in Japanese we have both!
