Furthermore, that fits perfectly. They are grown down in the southeast of the province, Wenshan Prefecture. 文山州, an area noted for its hot peppers. And when she said "chou bai" and I asked her to repeat it, what I got was just more Kunming dialect: "Qiu bei" is actually not that far off. She was overall rather difficult to understand. It varies a lot here. And going to the farmers market is always less likely to yield great Putonghua than going to a university campus.
