zhouhaochen Posted January 23, 2018 at 08:07 AM Report Share Posted January 23, 2018 at 08:07 AM I know the interest in studying Shanghainese is pretty small and there is the risk of the language becoming extinct, however we still (or maybe exactly because of that) want to create some useful resources for people to learn Shanghainese. The language is at the heart of Shanghainese culture, which I (even as a Beijinger) strongly believe should be preserved or at least kept alive until people will wake up to the fact that Shanghai without Shanghainese just wont be the same anymore. It is also quite a fun language. We were thinking about creating a 10 episodes (each about 5 minutes long) video series for a beginner to learn Shanghainese. We have a very good Shanghainese language teacher who would be interested in doing this in Shanghai and are now looking for a foreign Shanghainese learner to do them together with (preferably with some video editing skills).
