Kunming

Hi, I've been looking around this site and it sounds like Yunnan Normal is the best place to study Chinese in Kunming, I looked on their website for contact details but can't find them.

so does anyone already studying there have the contacts I need: e-mail, phone number of the language department?

also, is it best to apply for a course through the university before getting to China or is it better/cheaper to just look around once I get there?

I've lived in China before, but my accommodation has always been provided, so does anyone know how easy it is to get short-term apartment contracts or rent a room in a flatshare?

any information about living and studying in Kunming would be great

cheers

i'm planning on yunnan normal also. it took seemingly forever, but i finally was

pointed in the right direction by someone on the forum here.

i received two (!!) emails from Yang Yehua in july. managed to get registration started,

and am now waiting on the visa and health forms. the staff must currently be on

vacation, as i've had no responses since july. btw, they have an online registration

form!!

they tell me that they prefer new students stay in the dorms for a couple weeks, but

they will then assist in finding an off-campus flat. (est. 600-1000 yuan/mo)

correspondence was in english, as my chinese is non-existant (semester in college

ten years ago).

planning on my escape from texas and attendance starting next spring. i will be (trying

to) calling on sunday (texas date/time). note for you cell phone users: t-mobile cost

us->china is $1.50/minute. if you use an AT&T calling card from sam's club, you can

dial the at&t 800 access number and call china for 7 cents a minute. t-mobile has free

calling on weekends, so you're not hit with an extra minutes fee.

Hey, tried to pm you but you have them turned off or something. I live in Kunming and my good friend just rented a three bedroom apartment and is looking for a third roomate. The rent is cheap (300-350RMB a month), it is a nice apartment in a central location, near the schools, clean and modern. The folks who rented it are an American guy and girl, (not a couple) very good friends of mine. If anyone is interested shoot me a pm and I'll give you my friends contact info.

Hello all!

I am a 21 year old australian girl who is currently living in Kunming. I am studying chinese at Yunnan University. I was wondering if anyone knew of any available apartments close to the uni that are looking for a flatmate. I am willing to pay a good price for a reasonable apartment. I really would need the apartment to have a phone line for internet connection - otherwise I dont mind as long as i have my own space and there is a kitchen and a washing machine. If you know of anyone or anything, dont hesitate to contact me and leave me your number. I would really appreciate it because I really want to get out of the university dormitory! :)

Thanks for your time.

I hope you're not too attached to the idea of a washing machine... It's not impossible, but I wouldn't get my hopes up.

There are sometimes postings at Paul's grocery (just off 一二一大街) for roomates, and maybe Prague cafe on 文林街. The YNU foreign students office might match students off as well, have you asked?

Im not particularly attached to the idea of a washing machine... and besides, the flats that i have looked at so far have had washing machines. I have already asked at the foreign students dorm, but they havent been able to help me. I know about all the postings at the cafes, but is not easy to find something at this time - being the start of the semester - I was just putting the feelers out in case any of you guys knew anything. If anybody is looking for a flat mate, just mail me: nadinevielhuber99@hotmail.com.

Thanks!
