What expenses should an expat forsee when living in Harbin? More accurately how expensive can it get keeping a one bedroom, furnished apartment? How much do you spend on groceries, transport, telecommunication etc.

Would love to hear any personal experiences.

The dormitory expense in Harbin is not as high as in Beijing and Shanghai, approximately ¥1,000-2,000/month for a one bedroom based on location and room quality, you may find more information here at http://zu.hrb.fang.com/house/g21/ . For other expenses like transportation, telecommunication and eating, eating is a big part, around ¥1,500/month if you plan to each outside, it is cheaper(¥500) if you can cook by yourself. Transportation, telecommunication plus ¥200-300 if you use bus, subway rather than taxi.
