How to translate 领导

The term gets used so frequently in Chinese and directly translating it as leaders often seems inappropriate. What other words do you use for 领导?

How liberal are we getting cause I’ve gone as far as “the executives” and “the management” when “the leadership” didn’t fit.

Very liberal. That’s what I’m looking for. Management is a good one.

I translate based on context. So if it's 公司领导 then it would be management, if it's 团队领导 or 部门领导 it could be the team leads or department head. I basically replace 领导 with the appropriate English-equivalent leadership position in question, based on context. Sometimes, just even "the bosses" or "the boss" works as well.

 

It really all just comes down to context.

What about when it is a list like “领导们、老师们、学生们”

From context, it's a school and so perhaps administrators / principals?

In the above context might 領導們 refer to the school governers?
