Identify old embroidery help

Recommended Posts

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Its very nice. Does it have any distinguishing marks or writing on the back of the frame?

To be honest there must countless ones like this, its a very popular style.

An expert may be able to give an approx date but its so hard to tell as they have been making this type of thing for centuries, however this is likely to be more modern.

Do you have any more information, where did you get it? How long can you trace the history of it ie was in your family and passed down from grandparents. Do you have any connections with China now or in the past of your family?

More information might help.

There are different kinds of Chinese embroidery, and this looks like 粤绣 “Cantonese Embroidery" from Guangdong Province.

If that's black silk, then the condition of the silk may give a hint to age, since silk tends to stiffen and weaken over time, though of course this also depends on storage conditions.
