TheWind Posted January 29, 2020 at 12:39 PM Report Share Posted January 29, 2020 at 12:39 PM I don't really understand the difference between these two, if any. 你还感冒了吗? 你仍然感冒了吗? Are these the same? or is their situational differences between the 2 words?
Dlezcano Posted January 29, 2020 at 11:51 PM Report Share Posted January 29, 2020 at 11:51 PM First, you should not write that 了 on both sentences. Regarding the meaning, it is the same but I would say that 仍然 is usually used in more formal sentences, while 还 feels more casual. For instance, a grandmother probably would not say 你仍然感冒吗 to her 5 year old grandson.
mungouk Posted January 31, 2020 at 07:42 PM Report Share Posted January 31, 2020 at 07:42 PM According to this interesting table of formal vs informal function words at Chinese Grammar Wiki, 仍然 is more formal and 还是 (meaning "still", "yet") is less formal. 还 also has many other functions on its own as well, of course.
