你好!  nǐ hǎo

I have this beautiful Chinese decorative lantern consisting of five paper balls vertically.

A friend in another forum helped me know that it reads 财源滚滚来 cáiyuán gǔngǔn lái; meaning roughly, "let the wealth/money come rolling in!"

It is hanging in the lobby inside the main entrance door of my house. Is this the right place for it, or should it hang outside the entrance, as per Chinese custom?

Thanks and regards,

Sohail Raza

I'm no expert but my inlaws usually hang a pair outside their front door at New Year. So I'd guess outside by the main entrance but not sure there's any objections to hanging where you like best. In historical dramas see them hanging along the colonnaded walkways in courtyard mansions.

I have seen them hung from low tree branches near the front entrance. I have also seen them indoors, in the lobby of business establishments. And inside the entrance of your home, where guests are received, would not be odd or out of place at all.
