Please help me with this technical term

外资企业 definitely means that the foreign party is providing the investment. Joint venture is usually either 合资企业 or 合营公司, depending on whether its jointly owned or operated.

I like Roddy's translation, but would literally translate this as:

共同投资外资企业合同

Contract for Joint Investment in a Foreign Funded Enterprise

To be honest I find it a little unclear (which is always a good reason to go for a minimalist translation). Is it two foreign companies investing in a wholy-foreign enterprise? That seems most likely, or is it a misuse of 外资 where it should be 合资 - ie it's a foreign + Chinese company?

Ok, that makes sense - I guess I'm used to hearing of single-investor foreign-owned enterprises, or sino-foreign joint ventures, but not wholy-foreign-owned joint ventures (confusing, isn't it).

I'd agree with Trevelyan, and good luck with the Italian . . .
