Pizzamaster Posted January 18, 2022 at 04:23 PM Report Share Posted January 18, 2022 at 04:23 PM I just downloaded LTL Deck on Anki and one of the first sentences I saw was "我不晓得“. When is this used over 知道? I've never heard it before. Trying to see if these sets of deck's are worth studying.
Lu Posted January 18, 2022 at 04:55 PM Report Share Posted January 18, 2022 at 04:55 PM It's a really normal word, but perhaps it's a regional thing and more used in the south. I think I first heard it regularly once I came to Taiwan.
realmayo Posted January 18, 2022 at 05:31 PM Report Share Posted January 18, 2022 at 05:31 PM Some places you might also hear a 我晓不得, if you're lucky.
889 Posted January 19, 2022 at 12:19 AM Report Share Posted January 19, 2022 at 12:19 AM Colloquial: a bit out of place in formal written Chinese, or even a formal speech.
幽默感 Posted January 19, 2022 at 05:19 AM Report Share Posted January 19, 2022 at 05:19 AM I'll agree with the folks above. Pleco says "same as 知道 zhīdào. Only used in colloquial Chinese" My wife is from Jiangsu province and she says that 晓得 is a common word in Shanghainese. So presumably since it's colloquial, compared to 知道, 晓得 is not a very frequently used word on TV or in movies. Take for example in the SUBTLEX-CH-WF word frequency list (based on movie subtitles), 知道 is ranked the 26th most frequent word, and 晓得 is ranked at 3649th.
Tomsima Posted January 20, 2022 at 02:14 PM Report Share Posted January 20, 2022 at 02:14 PM In Hubei it's used a lot colloquially at the end of sentences, like the English 'know what I mean? ya know?' 晓得吧
