Is proper blogging a thing on the Chinese web?

I much prefer reading content on personal blogs and now I am thinking this is one of the reasons I am consuming very limited sources of Chinese web content. I just don't feel like using platforms like Wechat, Xiaohongshu ... The same way I don't use Instagram, Facebook on the English-speaking side of the web.

Do any of you regularly read proper non-platformed Chinese blogs? Which ones?

As a native speaker I'd like to say that most non-platformed Chinese blogs I've ever seen are the blogs of computer scientists and internet technicians. But personally i think these blogs are nonsense for a Chinese Learner. After all setting up a personal non-platformed blog need some technical knowledge, and maybe that's why most non-platformed Chinese blogs belongs to those specialists, and who don't want to be restricted by the format of social platforms.

Meanwhile, as a Z-gen guy i'll say that, at least in mainland China, those "blogs" seem to be a bit "out-fashioned". I'm just old enough to remember the time when personal blog sites are quite popular in Chinese Internet, yet that was already ten years ago or more.

What about video blogs? There are definitely tons on YouTube . I like one called 大熊 Big Bear podcast. He talks a lot about IT stuff which I know nothing about, but also about travel, music and jut rambling. It’s overall too advanced for me,  but I can comprehend enough. He’s got a really nice neutral putonghua accent and very pleasant manner of speaking, plus male voice ;).

I tried multiple times to get into Youtube content, but it just never got me interested enough to come back to it regularly. Funny enough, podcasts are absolutely my cup of tea and most diverse source of Chinese content. And 大狗熊 is one of the oldest podcasts and I used to listen to it a lot, especially the book summary ones, but it got repetitive after a while. Still an absolutely great one for learners, he speaks so clear and slow :)

I read people's personal blogs on weibo.com

I always thought Weibo is like Twitter .. I should probably just give it a try, even if it’s a platform :D
